How to Get Started

Ask your VA provider to submit a cranial prosthesis consult for your medical hair loss condition to the Prosthetics department
Your consult must say "cranial prosthesis" or "wig" — not just a general referral
If you'd like Wigs Plus to service you, ask your doctor to add our name and phone number to the consult: Wigs Plus, 320-362-7676
We coordinate the rest on your behalf through the VA Medical Center

What to Say at Your Appointment

Use this exact language when talking to your doctor:

"I would like to request a cranial prosthesis consult. Please list Wigs Plus as my provider and include their phone number, 320-362-7676, on the consult. I want to make sure the referral goes directly to them."

Why this matters: If your doctor does not put Wigs Plus on the consult, your prosthetics department may send the referral to a different provider. This one step protects your referral and makes sure the wig you want comes from us.

How to Qualify for Human Hair

The VA defaults to a synthetic wig unless your consult specifically states "human hair wig."

To qualify, you need a clinically documented allergy to synthetic hair on file with your doctor.

Tell your doctor:

"I have a sensitivity to synthetic hair. Can you document a synthetic hair allergy on my chart so I can qualify for a human hair cranial prosthesis? Please note 'human hair wig' on my consult."

Without this language on the consult, the VA will default to synthetic.
